No Child Left Behind

On January 8, 2002, President George W. Bush signed into law the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001(NCLB). This new law represents his education reform plan and contains the most sweeping changes to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act since it was enacted in 1965. It changes the federal role in education by asking America's schools to describe their success in terms of what each student accomplishes. The act contains the president's four basic education reform principles:

Stronger accountability for results;
Local control and flexibility;
Expanded options for parents; and
An emphasis on effective and proven teaching methods.
In sum, this law-in partnership with parents, communities, school leadership and classroom teachers—seeks to ensure that every child in America receives a great education and that no child is left behind. To l earn more about No Child Left Behind at www.ed.gov/nclb

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What are Supplemental Education Services (SES)?
A: The term “supplemental educational services” refers to tutoring and other supplemental academic enrichment services, usually in reading, language arts or math. This extra help can be provided before or after school, on holidays and/or weekends.

Q: How will I know if my child is eligible for SES?
A:
If your school has been identified for improvement for more than two years, your school district is required by law to provide you with a list of the state-approved providers offering supplemental educational services in your area.

Q: How do I choose a good program?
A: The law requires that providers offer high-quality, research-based instruction. Your school district is required to give you information about every available program in your area, including information about the providers, their qualifications and their effectiveness. We are pleased to inform you that Against All Odds Foundation (AAO) is approved provider #258.

Q: Who pays for the program?
A: The Program is free to YOU! If you receive free or reduced lunch, your school district will pay for the Supplemental Educational Services directly.

Q: What if my child’s school is listed as being in need of improvement for more than one year, but my district has not contacted me with a full list of options?
A: You should contact your local and state school officials. The Department of Education’s Web site provides a list of contacts for your state. Visit www.NoChildLeftBehind.gov or call toll-free 1-800-USALEARN.

Q: How Do I choose Against All Odds Foundation as my provider?
A: You can contact your child’s school and complete a provider selection form. Be sure to write Against All Odds (#258) as your 1st choice. Contact us directly at 908-206-9800 or go to www.againstalloddsfoundation.com.
